Volunteer - Anagach Woods

We are running two volunteer days each month in 2026, starting in March. You can find the dates on the sign-up page.

Volunteer days start at 10am and finish at 3pm. We will generally have a short coffee break in the morning and a longer lunch stop (so please bring hot drinks and some lunch with you).

We usually meet at the Curling Club but that may change based on the plan for the day. We’ll let you know by email a few days before. We provide all of the tools that you need and we can also provide work gloves, but you may prefer to bring your own. Sometimes we will work in and around ponds and streams so you may need waterproof footwear. We will let you know by email a few days in advance of the volunteer day if this is the case.

Nature restoration could include:

Tree thinning
Removing non-native plant species
Ground vegetation management
Creating and maintaining pine hoverfly tree stumps
Dam building and maintaining to raise the water table
Removing of unnecessary fencing

Paths and signage could include:

Transporting, laying and rolling aggregate to improve the surface of core paths
Digging borrow pits for additional material
Removing overhanging trees and branches
Installing signs, benches and other infrastructure

Woodworking could include:

Creating signs, benches and other infrastructure
Learning to use woodworking tools

All our volunteer days are led by Trustees, or other experienced volunteers (all of whom are qualified first aiders). You won’t be put under any pressure to carry out activities that you are not comfortable with and you will be with a group of like minded people who want to improve the woods and have some fun.
